Obituary for Thelma Jean Tennant (Ice)
Thelma Jean Tennant, 93, of Reader went home to be with her Lord on March 25, 2021.
Jean was born on March 18, 1928 and was the daughter of Herbert and Charlotte Ice of Wallace, WV.
She graduated as valedictorian with the Wallace High School class of 1946. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she loved to attend Sunday School and fellowship with her many friends. Jean loved her WVU Mountaineers and anxiously waited to see if they were playing football or basketball during each season so she could cheer them on to victory.
On December 5, 1953, Jean married Toy Tennant and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before Toy’s death on August 30, 2018. Toy and Jean were blessed with 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She devoted her life taking care of her family and was loved by the many friends who will cherish their memories of her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Herb, and sisters Geraldine and Mildred. Surviving are her brothers Elden "Hick" and Jim (Sheila) Ice, both of Bridgeport. She is survived by, daughters: Sandy (Joe) Herrick of Hannibal, OH; Sherry (Dale) Dulaney of Big Run, WV; Linda (John) Knowlton of Marietta, OH; Jennifer (Bill) Minger of Middlebourne, WV; and one son, her sunshine, Gary (Kim) of Reader, WV. She was the most wonderful, loving, and kind Granny to ten grandchildren: Nicole Dulaney of Big Run, WV; Adam (Kristin) Herrick of New Martinsville, WV; Amie (Jamie) Meadows of Hurricane, WV; Emilee (Theo) Andrianos of Pittsburgh, PA; Corey (Bethany) Dulaney of Wileyville, WV; Casey (Caitlin Lee) Knowlton of Newark, OH; Kayla (Jonas) McEldowney of Middlebourne, WV; Amber (Will Higginbotham) Tennant of Milton, WV; Zack (Lindsay) Minger of St. Mary's, WV; Wesley Dulaney of New Martinsville, WV, and 2 step grandsons: Todd (Maggie) Knowlton of Lompoc, CA and Gray (Jennifer) Knowlton of Austin, TX. From those grandchildren, she was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren: Caleb, Owen, Jackson, Kadin, Khloee, Koleson, Isabella, Swisher, Charlotte, Lillianna, Harrison, Eliana, Harper, Olivia and Annalise. Jean is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, 2 special sisters-in-law, Cloy Winland and Floy Morris and 2 loving caregivers, Hannah Utt and Helen Stevens. She will be missed by her only pet that has ever been allowed in the house and to lay on the couch with her, Lily, her kitty cat.
The family would like to thank Amedisys and their compassionate staff who cared for Jean during her time with hospice.
Friends will be received from 3:00pm-8:00pm at Williams Funeral Home, 12750 Shortline Highway, Pine Grove on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 where funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Pastor Ron Acord will be officiating with burial to follow at the Milburn Cemetery on Eight Mile Ridge, Reader, WV.
