Obituary for Jean Joan Priest (Gaston)

Jean Joan Priest, 94, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away at her home on Friday, March 5, 2021. She was born August 6, 1926, in Good Hope, WV, a daughter of the late Parley Ford and Mildred Maple Gaston.

Jean retired from C&P Telephone Co, then volunteered as dispatcher/bookkeeper at the New Martinsville Ambulance Service in New Martinsville, WV for several years before moving to Port St. Lucie, Florida, after the passing of her husband of 31 years, Robert Priest. She then volunteered for over 30 years at Port St. Lucie County Hospital.

Jean was an avid football fan and proud fanatic of the West Virginia Mountaineers. Her love of dogs, especially the Eskimo Spitz breed, led to the rescue of many over the years whom she treated as her babies. She also sang in Presbyterian church choirs throughout her life.

Those left to cherish her memory are one sister, Gerry Michel (Bill), McKinney, Texas and one brother, Theodore Gaston (Donna), Belpre, Ohio, three nieces, several great nieces and nephews, two great, great nephews and special friends, Jim and Anne Nimmo, Ralph and Nina Penick and John Knudson.

The family would like to thank Darlene Billington and her compassionate group of people who lovingly cared for Jean in her time with hospice.

Memorials may be made to Vitas Healthcare, 11380 SW Village Parkway, Suite 100, Port St. Lucie, FL or the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.

Graveside services will be held at a future date at Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville, WV.
