Obituary for Mildred Louise "Mid" Cole (Barr)

Mildred “Mid” L. Cole, 86, of Hundred, WV passed away Saturday December 19, 2020.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years Donald Cole, they have three children, daughter Pam (Mike) Bennett of Ridgeley, WV; son, Gary Cole of Pineville, WV; daughter Lisa (Doug) Stephens of Fairmont, WV; three grandchildren; grandson, Jonathan (Ashley) Bennett of Martinsburg, WV, granddaughter, Amanda Bennett of Ridgeley, WV and granddaughter, Sophie Stephens of Fairmont, WV; two sisters Laura (Norman) Williams of New Martinsville, WV and Lucille Jolliff of Glenville, WV and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Garrison and Pauline (Teagarden) Barr of Hundred, WV; sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Norman Morris, sister and brother-in-law Lavena and Robert Keenan, Lavena’s second husband and brother-in-law Charlie Ray Stoneking; brother-in-law Thomas Jolliff ; three brothers, Charles, William, and Harley Barr.

Mildred was a member of the Hundred Church of Christ in Hundred WV. She retired from the Wetzel County Board Of Education, she was first a janitor and then ended her career being a cook at Long Drain School where the kids loved her. She was an honorary member of the Hundred High School FFA Chapter for her work of frying meat at the Ham and Bacon Shows for several years. Donald and Mildred traveled seeing many parts of our country. She managed to see forty-seven of the fifty states. She was also known to many as “The Jelly Lady”. She sold jellies and jams, giving away numerous jars to children. She helped many children with their needs including giving them clothing. She was also involved in years past with “Adopt an Angel” program started by the old Bank of Hundred. Mildred helped many friends and neighbors in their time of need. This included sending and preparing food for different occasions. She took excellent care of her immediate and extended family constantly through the years. She always let know you know you were loved. The family would like to thank the caregivers that assisted with Mildred’s care.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Cunningham Memorial Gardens in Burton, WV.
