Obituary for Mavis Eleanor Goontz (Mayfield)
Mavis Eleanor Goontz, 84, of Pine Grove, WV passed from this world on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 while at Worthington Health Care Center in Parkersburg, WV.
Mavis was born February 13, 1936 in Mobley, WV; daughter of the late Everett Ray and Esta Beatrice (Kendall) Mayfield.
She was a homemaker, pie and pasta cook for the former Barb’s Café, and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, floral arranging, gardening, decorating cakes and canning. She was a member of the Pine Grove Christian Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the love of her life, James Goontz; brother, Arman Mayfield; sister, Jean Wyatt and infant sister Esther Mayfield.
Surviving are her son, Jim (Tina) Goontz of Parkersburg, WV; daughter, Debbie (Jon) Lane of Reno, OH; three brothers, Merlin Mayfield of Newton Falls, OH, Don Mayfield and Edwin (Loretta) Mayfield of Clarksburg, WV; five sisters, Vesta Weaver of Harrisonburg, VA, Virgia Titus of Colliers, WV, Margaret (Jim) Schroeder of Surprise, AZ, Carol (Gareald) Fordyce of Pine Grove, WV and Sharon Bragg of Knob Fork, WV; grandson, Nathaniel (Caitlin) McDougle of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Due to the restraints of the Corona Virus a graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.
