Obituary for Velma E. Bates (Wetzel)
Velma E. Bates, 89, of Jacksonburg, WV when home to her Savior on Thursday, May 30, 2019 while at Genesis Fairmont.
Velma was born July 15, 1929 in Jacksonburg, WV; daughter of the late Jesse and Lilly (Utt) Wetzel.
She was a retired cook for Wetzel County Schools; like traveling, reading and collecting antiques; was a 4-H Leader for thirty years and a Christian by faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Bates; grandson, Eddie Mack Bates; step-great grandson, Dakota Brenneman; brother, Robert Wetzel and three sisters, Georgia Smith, Phyllis Haught and Sally Dunlap.
Surviving are her five children, John Mack (Jennifer) Bates of Jacksonburg, WV, Tresa Goodrich of Smithfield, WV, Jeff Bates, Sherry Lucas and Rick (Dawn) Bates all of Jacksonburg, WV; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends received 1-6 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the Williams Funeral Home, 12750 Shortline Hwy, Pine Grove where services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2019 with her grandson, Josh Bates officiating. Burial to follow in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery near Hastings, WV
