E. Ruth (Derby) Bates, 87, of Jacksonburg, WV went to meet the Lord on Saturday, June 17, 2017 while at Sundale Nursing in Morgantown, WV.

Ruth was born August 3, 1929 in Pine Grove, WV; daughter of the late Willis M. and Addie (Ingram) Derby.

She was a Christian by faith, homemaker, retired sales clerk for the former Anderson’s Grocery, volunteer for fifteen years as an aide for the Shortline Ambulance Service, active member of the Jacksonburg Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, past treasurer of the Jacksonburg Community Organization, member of the Jacksonburg Homemakers, chairperson for Jacksonburg Homecoming and Shortline Senior Citizens. While her children were growing up she was a volunteer for numerous organizations. Ruth loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. One of her favorite hobbies was BINGO. She was a big fan of WVU football and basketball.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Bates (1979); two sisters, Doris Haught and Edith Bates; three brothers, Leroy Derby, Norman Derby and Howard Derby and several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Surviving are her ; two daughters, Jeanne Bates Tennant of Morgantown, WV and Judy Bates Eddy of Jacksonburg, WV; two sons, Tim (Kimmy) Bates and Mike (Debbie) Bates both of Pine Grove, WV; brother, Eugene (Shirley) Derby of Jacksonburg, WV; three sister-in-laws, Carolyn (Max) Wohnhas of Woodsfield, OH, Velma Bates of Jacksonburg, WV and Velma Derby of New Martinsville, ten grandchildren, April (Phil) Ring, Angie (Jim) Bagley, Chub (Krista) Bates, Kristin Eddy, Andraa (Brandon) Rosenberger, Scott (Sarah) Bates, Addie (Daniel) Tennant, Travis Eddy, Daryl Bates and Taylor Bates; twelve great grandchildren, Hunter, Haley, Colton, Haydyn, Mariah, Presley, Madison, Devon, Ella, Deklan, Charlotte and Duncan; a dear friend to Ruth and family, Charity Cogar of Pine Grove, WV and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Williams Funeral Home, 12750 Shortline Hwy, Pine Grove, WV, where services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017 with Jerry Kuhens officiating.

Interment to follow in the Bates Cemetery in Jacksonburg, WV.
