Obituary for Raymond "Ray" Figlar

FIGLAR, RAYMOND GREGORY -- born May 29, 1941, died November 24, 2014, at home, after an extended illness. Ray was married to his wife, Cindy, for 49 years.

Ray was the eldest child of the late Elizabeth (Schmidt) Figlar and Raymond Figlar of Fairfield, Connecticut, where he graduated Roger Ludlowe High School in 1959. He met his wife, Cindy, when they were attending Salem College in Salem, WV. He graduated from Salem in December, 1964, with a Bachelors in History. He earned his Masters Degree in History from West Virginia University in 1974. Ray taught History for 33 years. He was also a wrestling coach for three years at Valley High School and was a Cub Scout leader. He retired from teaching in 1997. Ray was an avid sportsman, outdoorsman, and musician.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his son Nathan (Tabitha), his daughter Heather (Brad), his brothers Neil (Beverly) and Greg, and his granddaughters, Jasmine and Linda.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Ray’s name, to charity of donor’s choice.
