Obituary for Mildred A. Stuart

Stuart, Mildred A. (Silven), 102, of New Martinsville, WV died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Sistersville Center in Sistersville, WV.

“Millie” was born June 26, 1910 in Cranston, Rhode Island daughter of the late E. Harold and Hilda Johnson Silven.

She was a retired secretary for the WVU Extension office, member of New Martinsville Senior Citizens, Wetzel County 4-H, former secretary for the Magnolia Yachts Club, received the 4-H All Star, certified Master Bridge player, favorite experience was participating in the Bill Forbes t.v. commercial featuring Forbes Gump, was honored to have a shelter at the 4-H Grounds named after her, volunteer dispatch for New Martinsville Ambulance Service and member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Stuart; two brothers, Burt Silven and Gilly Silven and a sister, Alice Batty.

Surviving are her son, Bill (Rae) Stuart of New Martinsville, WV and daughter, Nancy Walker of Grove City, PA; six grandchildren, Diane (Barry) Goble, Rick (Janice) Walker, Steve Stuart, Chris (Sharron) Stuart, Craig (Julie) Stuart and Jan (Dax) Thomas; ten great grandchildren, Amy Walker, Todd Walker, David Goble, Jennifer Goble, Greg Goble, Deighton Stuart, Sam Thomas, Abby Stuart, Drew Thomas and Sophie Stuart, two great great grandchildren, Dylan Goble and Aiden Lineberry and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Shortridge officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Mildred’s name, to the Wetzel County 4-H Leaders Association, RR 2 Box 107, New Martinsville, WV 26155.
